We have selected high quality cattle from many of the top breeding programs in the country to build a strong foundation for our breeding program. Our program has been shaped by the lasting influence of long-established Highland herds, including Owl Rock, Zealand Farms, Loch Straun, Drover Hill, Cobblestone, Summit Ranch, and Star Lake. We are highly selective about the females we retain, with each one chosen to further strengthen the quality, consistency, and future of the Windemere herd.​

      We breed almost exclusively through artificial insemination and maintain a large selection of quality bulls in our tank. Each bull we utilize is selected for correct structure, calving ease, great performance, and genetic excellence. Our diverse selection includes many of the breed’s leading bulls, allowing us to consistently produce high-quality calves while maintaining genetic diversity within our herd.

      Bulls are carefully matched with our brood cows and heifers to complement their strengths and improve traits from one generation to the next. This approach allows us to select the bull best suited to each individual female and continually improve the quality and consistency of our herd. Our breeding goal is to produce structurally sound, productive cattle that display genetic excellence, possess great temperaments, and exemplify the characteristics of the Highland breed. We value cattle that are adaptable and versatile enough to excel in a variety of programs, from beef production to seedstock operations.

      Utilizing an embryo program allows us to further diversify our calf crop by incorporating embryos produced years ago and gaining access to genetic lines that might otherwise be difficult to obtain. Flushing our donors has also allowed us to expand the influence of our top-performing animals and increase the availability of many of our most desirable maternal lines.
